From the Principal's Office:
Good morning, MS Parents and Families!
Happy Monday and welcome back from the weekend!
WOOHOO!! We are done with our regularly scheduled state testing for this year!!
I know that the yearly testing is stressful for all involved (students, parents, teachers, principals, etc), but I want to be sure to recognize our students for having an AMAZING attitude during this year’s tests. Our kids worked hard, stayed on task, and did a marvelous job of representing our school!!
I would also want to be sure to thank all of you for your roll in encouraging your child to give the tests their all. I am incredibly grateful for all of your efforts on our behalf!
With the weather warming up, this is the time of year when we start to see kids push the boundaries of our Policy Book when it comes to the kinds of clothes that they are wearing. When it comes to dress code, it is not our intention to alienate students or to take away from a child’s individuality, but instead we want to provide a quality, distraction free setting in which all students are able to focus on their school work.
Please note the following regulations when it comes to student dress code and keep an eye on the clothes that your child is wearing to school.
- Shorts, dresses, skirts or other similar clothing shall not be shorter than four (4) inches above the kneecap.
- Students will not wear inappropriately sheer, light or low cut clothing (e.g. midriffs, halter tops, backless clothing, tube tops, garments made of fishnet, mesh, or similar material muscle tops, etc.) that bare or expose traditionally private parts of the body including, but not limited to, the stomach, buttocks, back and breasts. Pants with exceptionally large holes and pajama bottoms are inappropriate.
- Students will not wear tank tops or other similar clothing with straps narrower than 1.5 inches in width.
If a student is deemed to be in violation of the dress code, they will be required to change into appropriate clothing or make arrangements for appropriate clothing to be brought to the school. If no arrangements for appropriate clothing can be made, the student may be sent home.
A student who repeatedly violates the dress code policy could be subject to suspension.
If you have questions about our dress code, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.
8th Grade Field Trip to Elitch’s on May 12:
Finally, with only 3 weeks of school left, I want to remind everyone about the rules for our upcoming 8th grade field trip to Elitch’s.
On Friday, May 12, the 8th grade class will be traveling to Elitch’s in Denver for an end of year 8th grade celebration. We have been taking this trip for many years as a way to reward our 8th graders for their 3 years as middle school students and to help them celebrate their transition to the high school.
Because this trip is considered a reward, we have a number of eligibility requirements in place. (Please see below):
- Students must be academically eligible to attend.
- Eligible students must not have any major office referrals (category 2 or greater) during 4th quarter.
- Students who receive 4 or more folder pulls during 4th quarter will NOT be eligible.
Every 8th grade teacher has gone over the eligibility criteria with our 8th grade students so everyone knows what is required. If you have any questions about the 8th grade trip or its eligibility requirements, please contact me at 970-336-8610.
School Dance (Friday, April 28):
Finally, we will be holding our last school dance of the year this Friday night (April 28) from 6-8 pm in the MS Cafeteria. General eligibility does apply so students cannot be failing more than 1 class at 8:30 am Monday morning if they are to attend the dance. Ineligible students were informed today (Monday) that they will not be able to attend.
If your child is eligible, we would love to see him/her at the dance; it promises to be a GREAT evening!!!
That is all for now. As always, thank you so much for your support of Platte Valley Middle School.
Have a wonderful week!
