What's Happening

From the Principal's Office:
Good Afternoon, MS Parents and Families!

Happy Monday and welcome back from the weekend!

Dress Code:
I have been noticing that our students are doing an exceptional job of obeying our dress code policies; even as the weather has been warming up! I would like to thank all of you for your efforts on our behalf in encouraging your students to dress appropriately. As a reminder, following are the policies that we enforce when it comes to student dress:

1.       Shorts, dresses, skirts or other similar clothing shall not be shorter than four (4) inches above the kneecap.

2.       Students will not wear inappropriately sheer, light or low cut clothing (e.g. midriffs, halter tops, backless clothing, tube tops, garments made of fishnet, mesh, or similar material muscle tops, etc.) that bare or expose traditionally private parts of the body including, but not limited to, the stomach, buttocks, back and breasts. Pants with exceptionally large holes and pajama bottoms are inappropriate.

3.       Students will not wear tank tops or other similar clothing with straps narrower than 1.5 inches in width.

If a student is deemed to be in violation of the dress code, they will be required to change into appropriate clothing or make arrangements for appropriate clothing to be brought to the school. If no arrangements for appropriate clothing can be made, the student may be sent home.

A student who repeatedly violates the dress code policy could be subject to suspension.

If you have questions about our dress code, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

8th Grade Field Trip to Elitches on May 11:
Finally, with only 3 weeks of school left, I want to remind everyone about the rules for our upcoming 8th grade field trip to Elitches.

On Friday, May 11th, the 8th grade class will be traveling to Elitches in Denver for an end of year 8th grade celebration. We have been taking this trip for many years as a way to reward our 8th graders for finishing strong and to help them celebrate their transition to the high school.

Because this trip is considered a reward, we have a number of eligibility requirements in place. (Please see below):

1.       Students must be academically eligible to attend (1 or fewer F’s the Tuesday before the trip).

2.       Eligible students must not have any major office referrals (category 2 or greater) during 4th quarter.

3.       Students who receive 4 or more folder pulls during 4th quarter will NOT be eligible.

Every 8th grade teacher has gone over the eligibility criteria with our 8th grade students so everyone knows what is required. If you have any questions about the 8th grade trip or its eligibility requirements, please contact me at 970-336-8610.

School Dance (Friday, April 27th):
Finally, we will be holding our last school dance of the year this Friday night (April 27th) from 6-8 p.m. in the MS Cafeteria. General eligibility does apply so students cannot be failing more than 1 class at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning if they are to attend the dance. Ineligible students will be notified on Tuesday that they will not be able to attend.

If your child is eligible, we would love to see him/her at the dance; it promises to be a GREAT evening!!!

That is all for now. As always, thank you so much for your support of Platte Valley Middle School.

Have a wonderful week!

                                          STUDENT DROP OFF
Parents please utilize the drop off lanes when dropping off students unless you are planning to walk them to their building. Students are being dropped off in the parking lot which is creating a dangerous situation as they walk across the lanes of traffic. If you are walking your child to their school, please use the cross walk.
